La Grille de maturité éditoriale CAMRS-AFRICA est un outil panafricain conçu pour aider les revues scientifiques africaines à évaluer leur niveau de structuration éditoriale et à planifier leur progression de manière réaliste et professionnelle.
Contrairement aux approches fondées uniquement sur la notion de qualité, cette grille adopte une logique de maturité éditoriale, reconnaissant que les revues évoluent à des rythmes différents selon leur contexte institutionnel, technique et financier. Elle ne classe pas pour exclure, mais pour accompagner.
La grille identifie cinq niveaux de maturité, de la revue émergente à la revue de référence, à partir de critères clairs portant sur la gouvernance éditoriale, le peer review, l’éthique, la régularité de publication, l’infrastructure numérique, les métadonnées et la visibilité.
Elle s’adresse aux managers de revues, équipes éditoriales, universités, centres de recherche et décideurs académiques souhaitant disposer d’un outil de diagnostic simple, structuré et adapté aux réalités africaines.

A tool to understand and strengthen African scholarly journals
The CAMRS-AFRICA Editorial Maturity Framework is a pan-African tool designed to support African scholarly journals in assessing their level of editorial structuring and planning their development in a realistic and professional manner.
Unlike approaches that focus solely on the notion of quality, this framework adopts an editorial maturity perspective, acknowledging that journals evolve at different paces depending on their institutional, technical, and financial contexts. It is not intended to rank or exclude journals, but rather to support and guide their progressive development.
The framework defines five levels of editorial maturity, ranging from Emerging Journal to Reference Journal, based on clear criteria related to editorial governance, peer review, ethics, publication regularity, digital infrastructure, metadata management, and visibility.
It is intended for journal managers, editorial teams, universities, research centres, and academic decision-makers seeking a simple, structured diagnostic tool adapted to African realities.
